Anastasio Hotel and Beach Club

Anastasio Hotel & Beach Club is one of those places that’s hard to leave after a 4 night stay.

We came to Uruguay planning to attend a deep house dance party at the locally famous La Excusa in downtown José Ignacio. Little did we know that the venue’s opening date for the season wasn’t until the very day we leave the country. But, we quickly discovered the country itself has its own natural song and dance for us to groove to.

Uruguay has a tropical climate with tropical animals, the first of which you notice are the birds and frogs – who sing their song on max volume around sunrise and sunset. During our stay at Anastasio in José Ignacio we slept with the back porch open every night – listening to deep house of the wild.

Location

Perfect walking distance via beach or road to downtown José Ignacio. We preferred this side of José Ignacio for softer sand and epic sunrise.

Cozy Fire Pit

The fire pit lights up just a bit before sundown. One night we enjoyed red wine, bread, olive oil, and hot tea all served to us fireside. A full lunch and dinner menu is offered at the Anastasio Hotel Restaurant “El Botero”, and the cooking held a torch to the dining options found in downtown José Ignacio.

Cruiser Bikes

Go explore the nearby towns, just a short cruiser ride away.

Infinity Pool

The pool goes on for infinity, and I imagine is incredibly refreshing on a hot day. During our stay Mid-December the weather was drab (this was a rare occasion for the time of year) so we never took a dip.

It was hard checking out of Anastasio Hotel, and we’re looking forward to returning in the future.

Breakfast

Like most of South America, it’s included. The lady ate fresh-squeezed grapefruit juice, local honey, toast, and green tea. The dude ate avocado toast, chocolate croissant, and coffee.

Rooms

During our stay we never felt crowded, and some days we thought we were the only ones there, but we weren’t.

The bed has super soft sheets, a medium mattress, with pillows on the firmer side. Slept like a cherub each night. The shower got super hot (always a plus for me, like to scald my skin), and had fantastic pressure. There’s also a cool retractable cord for hanging your wetsuit or swimsuit on.
