Ka’ana Belize Luxury Resort
A luxury jungle resort in the heartland of Belize, Ka’ana Resort is recognized as a leading boutique hotel worldwide. Ka’ana is an ecologically responsible destination with its local rehabilitation projects and contribution to environmental programs. They earned an extra green star in our book for cooking with local ingredients, thereby supporting the surrounding community that brings visitors to the area. You’ll learn all about that in your Mayan cooking lesson, offered on-site weekly
Location and Safety
Deep in the heart of Belize’s jungle, Ka’ana is a magical place where safety is the last thing that will cross your mind. The property is surrounded by jungle and gating, and the staff is prepared to make this bespoke excursions one of your most memorable. The boutique accommodations are a short ride from the San Ignacio town center, accessible via taxi or bus.
Rooms
The property has a mix of villa and suites that are thoughtfully designed to integrate the natural beauty of the surrounding jungle. The master suites have private decks, gardens, and outdoor shower where you can truly rake in the wilderness of the jungle.
We stayed in a Balam suite, which felt equally as private as the master suites with a private entrance and outdoor sitting area. You’ll be overlooking the pool and tropical gardens.
No matter which villa or suite you choose, you’ll be living in hacienda-style Belizean luxury — which, after staying on the grittier cayes (islands) off the coast, will be quite the treat.
Amenities
Yoga
There are complimentary yoga sessions on a varied schedule each week, check with the concierge.
Pool
We spent one afternoon lounging by the pool, which is shaded by the jungle trees and doesn’t get a significant amount of sun – not always a bad thing (wear sunscreen kids).
Mayan Cooking Class
We tried out their on-site traditional Mayan Cooking class and created our very own tamales, corn tortillas, and corn drink. It was a lot of corn, but incredibly interesting to experience this process.
Food and Drink
Breakfast
The breakfast is American Style with a Belizean twist. You’ll get slices of toast alongside little fresh tortillas. Each morning there was a new juice option – pineapple, watermelon, grapefruit, you name it. Coffee comes in a french press and tea available as well.
Lunch
We never ate lunch on site, but each day they packed a to-go lunch appropriate for our adventure ahead.
Dinner
Treat yourself to a house made cocktail and experienc the 5-star on-site restaurant. Honestly, we still dream of eating at the Ka’ana retaurant, it was by far the best culinary experience of the trip. The plants fresh from the on-site garden and they do some very creative things with their breads and spreads. The catch of the day was worth it every time.
Desert
Sit close to the fire pit and you can roast your own s’mores after dinner, just ask!
