Kitesurfing the Caribbean Island of Saint Lucia

Saint Lucia is so much more than the safe-keeper of one of the 7 Wonders of the World. It’s a place of green luxury, crystal water, and of course – wind.

Cas en Bas Kitesurfing Beach

Located on the Northern part of Saint Lucia, “Cas en Bas” is not only a fun word to say – it’s also a fun place to kite! Boasting two kite schools and one restaurant, it’s a secluded spot to ride.

Inside the reef is mainly for beginners or pros practicing skills, you can kite outside the reef to get more spaces and waves to play with.

An added bonus: if you brought along someone that doesn’t kite, they won’t be bored. You can horseback ride along the beach and explore the area up and down the bay.

Fishing Saint Lucia

Hackshaw’s Boat Charters

Warned that we aren’t guaranteed to catch a fish, we went out to sea with a fridge full of drinks. Sail fish (the ones that leap out of the water) were everywhere, and you follow them to find the bigger fish. We reeled in two dorado, which at the time seemed minimal but those fish fed us for two days. Highly recommend these guys, funny and accommodating.

Accommodations

Caraway Villa in Cap Estate remains to be one of the best Airbnb experiences we’ve ever had. This place has rockin’ Air Conditioning, incredibly comfortable beds, and is located in a primo spot for kitesurfing all day all night.

Cap Estate is a retirees golf course area – so it’s full of cute old people, coconut trees, and some crazy looking gigantic caterpillars.

Luxury Accommodations

We stumbled upon Sugar Beach – A Viceroy Resort after a failed attempt at hiking one of the Wonders of the World: The Pitons. If you want to hike The Pitons, arrive early and with cash in hand. Without a pre-purchased ticket or cash, we left and headed to crash the nicest hotel on the island.

We started our tour at the beach, where we snorkeled with flocks of purple squid, sea turtles, and vibrant fish. After a day in the sun, we freshened up at beachside showers, then headed for dinner in the main hotel area. Dinner at The Terrace Restaurant was a divine way to end the day.
