Touring the Ruins of Tikal National Park
In the heart of the jungle, this ancient ceremonial city center contains the ancient ruins of temples and palaces once occupied by the Mayan Civilization. Also, in Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope — the moon of Yavin 4 was filmed at Tikal.
We started this journey in Caye Caulker, Belize crossing the border to Guatemala just for our day trip to Tikal. It takes about an hour to cross the border, and you’ll want to do so with a tour guide. We booked our tour through the hotel we stayed at in San Ignacio, Belize. The tour guide will take care of the logistics, all you need is your passport.
Best Time to Visit
Mid October and November is considered one of the best times to visit, the rainy season is over but everything is still lush and green. Many say there is really no bad time to visit Tikal, just a matter of preferene.
Worst Time to Visit
During the late dry season (May / April) the land can get very dusty, and the views of the land aren’t as great because they aren’t as lush.
